1/4/2020 0 Comments Happy New Year! This is the time of year to make resolutions, set goals and intentions. Setting an intention is a little different than setting a goal. An intention is not the tangible "lose 10 lbs." or "increase students' reading comprehension by 20%" that you may be used to. It is a feeling or heart-centered purpose we want to cultivate in our lives. To find an intention that comes from the heart and evokes feeling or purpose in your life, sit quietly for a few minutes and allow thoughts to rise from the stillness. Most likely what arises first is what your heart wants for the coming year. Once you have found the intention you want to set for this year, write it down, journal about it or write it on a sticky note and place it in a spot that will draw your gaze each day. Share your intention with one or more of the people close to you. In order for your intention to come to fruition you need to put a little bit of attention to it every day. By putting a little attention on your intention each day, you will eventually see it manifest in your life. This is where developing a spiritual practice is very helpful. A spiritual practice is a ritual that supports the growth of your inner self, your true self. You may already have a spiritual practice in your life such as yoga, a morning or evening prayer, quiet time in nature, journaling, even walking the dog after work or first thing in the morning can be just enough quiet time to enrich your spirit. A morning routine in the classroom can be used as a time to incorporate some deep breathing with your students as a spiritual practice. During this time of spiritual practice silently repeat the word or words you have chosen as your intention. This little bit of attention each day will provide you with intuitive thoughts and actions and help you stay on track toward bringing your intention to life. I have been documenting my journey toward my intention of self-discipline in our Peaceful Teacher Peaceful Life Facebook Group and I would love to hear from you what intention you want for your life this year. Please leave a comment below to let me know how this works for you or you can reach out to me on Facebook and Instagram. AuthorHi! Thank you for joining me on this journey. After spending 30 years in education, I'm writing my next chapter. This blog is a journey through that next chapter as I explore myself and the world around me. I write about mindfulness, how it has supported my life and how it can support you as well. My wish for you is to take what you need and leave the rest. Archives
