12/4/2019 0 Comments Mindful Tips for Teachers: Tip #2Tip #2 Intention and Attention Yesterday we learned about setting an intention for your day or even part of your day. Today I want to expand on the idea of setting an intention. Once we set an intention, we must focus our attention onto what we want to manifest. Whatever we focus our attention on will grow. Whatever we ignore will wilt and die. I see this in my garden, when the weather is cool outside my husband and I will spend more time out there tending to the garden, watering, pulling weeds, and pruning. Then when the hot weather comes, we find ourselves outside less and our garden starts to wilt and get overgrown because we haven’t put our attention into taking care of it. The same if true for our intentions and other daily practices. The best way to focus your attention onto an intention or anything you want to manifest is through meditation. Meditation is simply the process of focusing your attention on a single point. The single point could be your breath, a candle, an object, or a picture. There are many ways to meditate.
One more important note about meditation: many people think that meditation is the process of stopping all thoughts in the mind. This is impossible. Your mind will continue to generate thoughts, meditation is the process of noticing those thoughts without attaching to them. Continued practice will show you that you can bring your attention back to your anchor when your mind wanders. Be patient with yourself and practice self compassion while you watch your meditation practice grow. I encourage you to begin a meditation practice today and please leave a comment below to let me know how this works for you or you can reach out to me on Facebook and Instagram.
